Dear Fred:
You in all probability have been swamped with
congratulatory messages and letters. I have for this
reason allowed a few days to elapse so that my little
I note would not be a part of the mass, but would come
~ along as an individual and personal message,
You have been giving a great deal of time and
energy to the American Medical Association, and I know
of no one who is as fully deserving of the honor which
you have received. You know better than most of us
the responsibilities that go with the office which I am
sure you can carry even though those responsibilities
may be greater than ever before because of the state of
affairs that this country and the world in general are
in. I hope that you will be able to take most of your
duties in stride without too many personal sacrifices.
However, you must know that with honor goes personal
sacrifice.
Mona and I congratulate you upon your election
as President Elect of the American Medical Association,
and we know that you will discharge your responsibili-
ties with honor to yourself and to medicine,
My sincere good wishes to all of you in which
Mona joins me.
