ACADEMIC CONSULTANT TRAINING PROGRAM l983/84
The Academic Library Consultant Training Program provides the opportunity
for outstanding librarians to develop skills nn identifying and diagnosing
library problems; study theory and concepts of library training and con-
sultation; gain experience in the consultation process; gain an operational
understanding of OMS self—study procedures and their application; and in-
- crease skills in facilitating groups engaged in problem-solving. During
the first two years of the program, 35 nmdividuals were selected to serve
as consultants to academic libraries, conducting self-studies or training
programs adndnistered by the Office of Management Studies. In the fou th
phase, an additional group of l5-20 persons will be selected.
Consultant training is a central element in the five—year Academic Library
Program of the Office of Management Studies. The program is sponsored by
the Association of Research Libraries, the Cou cil on Library Resources,
and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. In addition, the General Electric
Fou dation is contributing support toward the Public Services Study. The
program has the endorsement of the Association of College and Research
Libraries, which is represented on the National AIP Advisory Cmnnittee.
Consultant candidates wdll be selected on the basis of a written application
available from the OMS, individual interviews held regionally, and partici—
pation in an Assessment Workshop. Selections will be made by the ALP Advisory
Committee and the OMB staff. Application forms are available from Office of
