State University,April 22,1908.

The faculty met at the call of the president in his office at
noon in special session,those present being President Patterson,
Professors White,Neville,w.K.Patterson,Anderson,Mathews,Miller,
Pence,Corbusier,Wilson,Zembrod,and Frankel. %“-‘df“fi ‘%

Professor White stated that the object of the meeting was to
consider such changes in the entrance requirements of the Univer;
sity as would make it conform to the requirements of institutions
which are accepted on the Carnegie Foundation.Professor Miller,
seconded by Professor Anderson, presented the following resolution:
That in order to bring the entrance requirements of the State
University,Lexington,Ky. into harmony with thosejither leading State
Universities the previous order of the faculty in reference thereto
be amended so that the Arithmetic be dropped from the list of sub—
jects to be offgggdbgg entrance units, that Algebra be reduced from
two units to onexhalf unis aflhthat the fifteen units required of

every candidate for entrance to the college be as follows:—

Required Units.

Algebra 1%.
Plane and Solid Geometry 1%.
English 3.

One Ancient or Modern Language 2.

General or English History 1.
Physics -£;.
Total 10.

To make up the remaining units applicants must select

five from the following list:—

Ancient or Modern Language 3.
Chemistry 1.
Physical Geography 5.
Geoology i;
Astronomy %.
Botany 5.
Physiology %.
Zoology . g.
Civics é.

The resolution was adoptede Professor White,seconded by Prof—
essor Frankel, moved that the secretary be instructed to communicate
the action of the aculty to the President of the Carnegie Founda—
tion. Professor Anderson,seconfled by DreTuttle,moved as a substitute

that the secretary be instructed to make a simple statement to the

 

President of the Carnegie Foundation of the present entrance require—
ments of the State University. After some discussion the substitute
motion was lost and the original motion was carriede The meeting

adjourned.
