FOREW/ORD

In compliance with Sections 156.310 and 156.320 of the Ken-

tueky Revised Statutes the State Textbook Commission of Kentucky

adopted and approved a list of textbooks for the use in Kentucky 3

during the five year period from July 1, 1945, to June 30, 1950.

At present there are 257 school districts in Kentucky. For the '
purpose of textbook adoption these districts are divided into two ‘
types—the basal adoption districts and the multiple adoption dis‘ '

tricts. The basal adoption districts include 99 counties and 74

independent school districts. In the multiple adoption districts |

there are 21 counties and 63 independent school districts.

In the basal adoption school districts the State Textbook
Commission designates “the subject and grade for which the
adopted book is intended.” The cities of the first, second, “1de
and fourth classes, independent school districts having a census of
1250 or more, and counties maintaining a school of at least nine
months have the privilege of selecting and adopting their textbOOkS
from the multiple list adopted and approved by the State Textbook
Commission.

In addition to the “List of Textbooks Adopted and Approved
by the State Textbook Commission for the use in Kentucky from
July 1, 1945, to June 30, 1950. ” Other information of value has be?"
included in this bulletin.
