The University Faculty met in the Assembly Room of Lafferty Hall, Monday,
March 14. 1955 at 4:00 p.m. In the absence of President Donovon Vice President
Chamberlain presided. Members absent were: Clinton Adams‘. Staley F. Adams,

The minutes of February 14 were read and approved.

Dean White presented for the College of Arts and Sciences a request that
the Department of Air Science be permitted to have 38 sophomore Air Science II
students absent from the campus March 15 and 16 and 38 other students in Air
Science II absent May 3 and 4. for the purpose of visiting the Wright Patterson
Air Force Base. This request was approved by the University Faculty.

Dean White also presented a request for new courses and changes in courses
which were approved by the Faculty.

I. The following courses be added:

Mathematics and Astronomy 153. Elementary Numerical Analysis (3)
Approximate computation, approximate roots of equations, numerical
curve fitting, interpolation formulas, numerical differentiation and
integration, solutions of systems of linear equations, introduction
to numerical solution of ordinary differential equations.

Prerequisite: M & A 35 or consent of the instructor.

Mathematics and Astronomy lGlamd. Summer Seminar in Selected
TOpics. (3 each)
This course is designed for those students who do not usually attend
our regular semester courses but who wish to take several of the
courses in summer school. The topics covered here will be selected
from our present 100 courses.

Prerequisite: Teaching experience in the field of mathematics or
consent of the instructor.

Physical Education 120 and. Independent Work in Physical

Prerequisite: Major and 3 standing in the Department.

In the absence of Dean Terrell Professor Romanowitz presented a request from
the College of Engineering for 22 students and three profeSsors in Electrical
Engineering to be away from the campus one week beginning Monday, April 11 in
order to make a trip to St. Petersburg, Florida to attend an annual meeting of
the Student Branches and Senior Sections of the American Institute of Electrical
Engineers in the Southern District. The University Faculty approved the request.

a new course and for a curriculum change both of which were approved by the

University Faculty as follows:

i Acting Dean Lyle R. Dawson presented for the Graduate Council a request

approved by the University Faculty.

Prerecuisites: Geog. l or permission of instructor

Dr. Chamberlain called attention to the lecture to be delivered by the
Ambassador from Austria and urged that the Faculty attend. He also reported
the illness of Dr. Kirwan.

Ad:

Dr. Chamberlain noted the action of the City Commissioners in approving
daylight saving time effective April 24 and stated unofficially that the
University would also go on daylight saving time on Ayril 24.

The Faculty adjourned.
