Chairman Rovin announced that the traditional End—of-Semester Social for
the Board of Trustees would be held on Tuesday, December 14th, and that further
details concerning the Social would be forthcoming.

 
 

The Chairman opened the floor for further discussion of the proposed Code . ‘;,1
of Faculty Responsibilities beginning with Section II, Other Faculty Responsibilities. ’ “5‘
He announced that during the interim period between meetings the Senate Council
had received a number of recommendations for change in the Code, some of which were
excellent suggestions for changes rewording, and new considerations, and a reformula-

tion of the Code. ‘ j 33

Lengthy debate followed in which Senators pointed out that Section II placed
the faculty in the role of policemen; considered the question of who should
determine a faculty member‘s guilt or innocence under Section III, Enforcement ‘;;k
(a straw vote taken showed the Senate overwhelmingly in favor of a faculty ‘ I j
member's guilt or innocence being determined by the faculty rather than pg
administration); and held debate on Section IV, Sanctions. ,,g‘

The Chairman announced that the Senate Council would collate all information
that had been submitted to it and would report back to the Senate at some later
date.

The Chairman announced that Professor Constance Wilson, College of Social
Professions, Professor Jacqueline Noonan, College of Medicine, and Professor
Stanford Smith, College of Arts and Sciences, had been elected to the Senate
Council for a three—year term beginning January 1, 1972.

The Chairman also announced that the University Senators were welcome to

attend the regular meeting of the Arts and Sciences course, 300—2, Tuesday evening,

l November 9th, in Room 106 of the ClaserOm Building: that Student Government

‘ President Scott Wendelsdorf and former Student Government President Steve Bright
would be leading the class in a discussion of the proposed Code of Faculty

‘ Responsibilities, and that expressions of student opinion in the session might be

‘Efififi valuable to Senators who are currently considering the Code.

The agenda will consist of a continuance of the discussion of
the Code of Faculty Responsibilities beginning with Section II.
It is requested that suggested revisions of the proposed Code be
forwarded to the Senate Council prior to November 8th for presenta-
tion during this discussion session.
