k The minutes of the meeting of March 8 and Council minutes of March 12
19 and 2b were read and approved.

> The Special committee to recommend modifications in the Senate rules,
made a report. Section 19 ”Absences Before and After Holidays”, was re—
ferred to the committee for further consideration. Section 27, "Member-
ship in Fraternities and Sororities”, was referred to the committee for
further consideration. Section 32, ”Eligibility for Intercollegiate
Athletics", was referred to the committee with a request that they make
it conform with the rules of the S outhern Athletic Association, the
final report of the committee to be made later.

The following petition Irom students in the College of Engineering
to organize a local fraternity, presented by Dean Melcher, Was approved:

"We, the undersigned, petition the Faculty of the University
r recognition as a lOCal Engineering Fnaternity. It
is our ai. t be the fifth chapter of the Triangle Fraternity, a
National fraternity of Engineers founded at Illinois State Univer—
sity in l907. At present the four chapters are Illinois State,
Ohio State, Wisconsin State and Purdue Universities. Our purposes
are to raise the standard of scholarship in the Engineering Depart—
ment and to promote social welfare and brotherhood spirit among

refl, local fraternity, to be knOWn as Beta Sigma Alpha, with the ulti—
mate object of forming a chapter of the national agricultural pro-
fessional fraternity, Alpha Gamma Rho. .We may state that there
are chapters of this national fraternity in fourteen of the fore—

most state colleges in the Union.

The Senate met Monday May 31, President MoVey presiding.
The minutes of the meeting of Lpril 19 were read and approved.
The petition of students in the Department 0: Economics Ior permisxtn
to organize a professional fraternity, Pi Chi, referred to the Senate by
the Council, Was stproved. The petition ‘s as follows:
