I see that the recent decision ofAttorney—_

General Crawford of Oregon is that the form of iniatite uetition
being used by the suffragists would not make women voters,as

"equal Suffrage" means equal between man and man, and the proper

term for us to use was “womanséuffrage”
this invalidates all the :etitions on hand,whioh have been
obtained since the last election, and that unless reversed by
the Supreme Court if a test case had been brought before it,

It is considered that

it would have invalidated the amendment had it carried last

June. This is from Mrs. Colby,s paper November 24th.

time for Report of the Committee on Membership/at the Chicago Convention. In
thinking over our comparatively brief time for reports, I would say that your
Committee can h'vo ten minutes.

I am personally very much interested in this question of increase
of membership and if there were time for discussion of the subject, of course, the
Committee should then have more time for its report, but as there are other things
which would take precedence at this time (the whole question of the memorial fund,
for instance) I think we will have to say only ten minutes for the Committee's

Report.

I hope I shall have the hearty Cooperauivn of nae State

ram pay a large part of the Convention expenses.

I send with this a sheet,of information as to rates etc.

You can say to prospeCtive adverulsers that We desire on-
ly such ads as we believe to be absoluuely reliable, bhau the Chair-
man of the Connuptee has deuemmined'to Strengthen the value of the
space in every possible way, such as announcing fYOM the platform
that the advertisements are strongly recommended by the management
and that a statement to that effect will be printed on the prog—
